What is the best strategy to develop the communication skills of children with autism? PECS or Makaton signs?

My autism.she friend has two children want to know what is the best strategy to develop their communication skills.

Mean PECS System Communication of change of image. The image of the most commonly used symbols are images of Communications (PCS) and are made by Mayer Johnson Boardmaker software. PECS uses picture representations of the object, action, person, and attributes (description). Representations of the image may be in the form of PCS, photos, clips, magazine images, product labels, etc. .. Some children can make better use of representations objects instead of images, but the trading system remains the same. PECS training is a 2-3 days training for speech therapists, teachers and parents, it is difficult to give detailed information on the YA. I believe that people with autism learn to better visuals in the form of images and / or written words. As a speech therapist, I do not recommend the use of PECS alone. A multimodal approach is most effective for communication functional. Boards communication, picture schedules, social stories, repetition, basic literacy, sign language / gestures, etc. .. beneficial increase in expressive, receptive and pragmatic language skills.
