What type of program should I use if I think my child needs to memorize words, but also learn phonetics?

This called whole language?

Hello, I am a Homeschool veteran of 16 years and never in my life, I bought a program. No, do not live what you are interested to "any language". I also taught my children not only the words that follow phonetic rule as "son", "ON" where, "a" and others that give headaches to some spelling. I simple construction paper, cut to 52 pieces all the same size (or almost the same), approximately 2 "x2" then cut my child the alphabet that I wanted to cut. We learned that the vowels are in first place, so that the boy had cut off all funds (in capitals) and small (tiny) and paste them in a voice card. Then we have short and long vowels, vowel, sound until I knew they understood. This was perhaps 1-3 days in total. Then I added the consonants RSTLN to the list and has the child cut upper and lower case letters in the list and paste them on a magazine that has a map (paper). Later, we heard sounds of the letters. Once children familiar sounds of the letters and vowels, and then we played a game in which I would like to have a vowel and consonants and consonants than vice versa, then the child choose two consonants and a vowel with the word that has chosen to work that day. If A is one of the vowels and consonants were R and N, then the word could be RN. If T and R was chosen as two words, "rat" and "tar". We also talked about how it sometimes has a different sound of the two discussed. Long story short, I had a child who can read the comics in the newspaper itself negotiation and anything else within 6 weeks. I used the book "Why Johnny Can not Read" by Rudolf Fleisch (originally published in 1955, past, but never printed). I had to read this book before your visit, and also used this book as a resource. I have borrowed this book at the library during 28 days, then renewed for another 28 days. It was a great help! He taught me most of my eight children to read in this way and been very successful in achieving to read quickly. Do not remember what they read, but in fact, be able to decode what they read. All are very good readers, to this day (and more). He had a son who was a late player (she did not learn to read before the age aged 12 1 / 2), but you never know now (it was not only cognitively ready to learn to read so far) as it reads, writes all the time, and has plans to become a writer.
